United score in first premiership battle as Britain's first league of giving is revealed

Manchester United have won their opening football season skirmish with arch-rivals Man City, topping the first ever football “League of Giving” for Britain's most generous fans.
United fans, who endured narrowly losing the Premiership title to City at the end of last season, trumped their rival supporters to the title in a nationwide poll to find the “League of Giving” commissioned by the Charities Aid Foundation, (CAF) which promotes charitable giving and provides financial services and social finance to not-for-profit organisations.
The poll of more than 1,000 Premiership fans saw Arsenal a tnumber 18 ahead of Swansea and Stoke, while their north London rival Spurs landed in third spot. London giants Chelsea, meanwhile, where left in ninth place, according to the poll of 1,067 Premiership fans.
Researchers asked fans of all 20 teams in the Premiership how much they give to charity in a month.
Overall, fans gave an average of £15 a month. But Manchester United fans topped the table giving away more than £30 a month to charity, above the £27.78 donated each month by Manchester City supporters.
Tottenham Hotspur devotees sit third in the league with fans each giving nearly £23 a month to charity.

Richard Harrison, CAF Director of Research, said: “The fact that football fans give £15 a month to good causes is excellent news for charity.
“While all the pre-season talk has been about huge transfer fees and mammoth wages, it's great to know that Premiership fans care about good causes as well as the action on the pitch.
“Football fans are famous for their generosity. Giving to charity is as rewarding as the beautiful game, and in these tough times, it is more vital than ever to back the causes we all care about.”
Market research firms Research Now and Lake questioned 1,067 football supporters between Tuesday 31st July and Sunday 12th August.
