"Loongate" is the political equivalent of the "Ratner Moment". Gerald Ratner mocked his customers, lost his CEO job and his firm collapsed.

There are times when running against your own base makes sense. It rarely hurt Tony Blair (though it probably did hurt the Labour party) but it’s not a good idea to reinforce, even in private, the electorate’s suspicion that your party is, on the whole, populated by rum coves at best and maniacs at worst.

WHO RUNS UK? PM weak, shrill, despised by his MPs who are bullied by loons and Mail or pre-extinction LIB-DEMS? Neither-lobbyists run UK.

Unite, Britain's biggest union, has called on the joint venture between French based Bouygues TP and Laing O'Rourke to maximise employment for UK based workers, following EDF's decision to award the contract to the company for work to build a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
The contract, worth around £2 billion, will create an estimated 4,000 jobs.
Unite national officer Bernard McAulay said:
"We welcome the news that the French based Bouygues TP has won the contract for civil work at Hinkley Point C. New nuclear build is hugely important for Britain's energy needs but it's also important for the national and local economy.
"We are seeking talks with the contractor in order to maximise job opportunities for UK workers both locally and nationally. New nuclear build must be used to help generate jobs and support the economy especially when other areas of the construction sector are suffering from a lack of demand."
