Unite reaction to JLR joint venture with the Chinese car maker Chery Automobile

Responding to the announcement that Jaguar Land Rover is entering into a joint venture with the Chinese car maker, Chery Automobile Company Ltd, to manufacture vehicles in China. Unite national officer, Roger Maddison said:
"Unite has sought and received assurances that investment and growth in the UK will continue. JLR's commitment to the UK has been demonstrated by the new jobs at Solihull and Halewood and the new advanced engine facility near Wolverhampton.
"As JLR expand into Asia it once again proves the worldwide appeal of the British car industry. With restrictions placed on British built cars by the Chinese government it makes sense to produce cars in China for the Chinese market. The union will continue to remain watchful to ensure that the UK workforce is not compromised by global expansion."
