UNICEF UK welcome Ed Davey’s announcement on climate change

UNICEF UK welcomed yesterday’s announcement by the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change reaffirming Government funding to support people around the world most affected by climate change.
At a press conference today at the UN Climate talks in Doha Mr Davey acknowledged that climate change is a growing global threat, which affects the worlds poorest. He also recognised the fundamental need for funding to build ”resilience and capacity for countries to mitigate and adapt to climate change.”
The Government also committed to delivering its fair share of the global long term goal to jointly mobilise $100 billion per year by 2020 of public and private finance in developing countries.

“Today’s announcement by Ed Davey is great news for children affected by climate change throughout the world.
We are particularly pleased that the government has reaffirmed its commitment to climate finance beyond 2012 and to contributing its fair share of the $100 billion a year by world governments to tackle climate change.
Britain has taken steps to showing the leadership that children around world desperately need. They must now show further leadership by encouraging other nations to commit money too, as we all need to play our part to combat climate change.”
