A Shropshire butcher had the cutting edge to help earn him a major industry award at a national event.
John Brereton, of Ludlow Food Centre, won this year’s EBLEX farm shop lamb butchery competition during the Sheep 2012 event at Malvern’s Three Counties Showground.
Second place went to Joe Webster, of Taylors Farm Shop, Lathom, Lancashire, and Matthew Gothard, of Greenfield Lamb, Atherstone, Warwickshire, came third. Each spent an hour preparing and displaying produce to impress both the judges and visitors who attended the event
Michael Richardson, EBLEX direct selling programme manager, said:
“The standard of the competition was again exceptional. It was a very strong field of competitors and incredibly difficult to pick a winner.
“However, John demonstrated high quality butchery skills, producing a wide range of cuts to capitalise on consumer appeal and making him a worthy winner of this year’s competition.”
