Scope responds to social care appeal in Cambridgeshire

Disabled man loses social care cost appeal against Cambridgeshire County Council.
Richard Hawkes, Chief Executive of disability charity Scope, responds:
“Many disabled people are vulnerable to wide-ranging interpretation by different local authorities of what someone's eligible needs are and therefore what social care support they qualify for.
“Thousands of disabled people rely on social care support for help with day-to-day tasks such as washing, dressing and getting out of the house, yet local authority budgets are becoming increasingly squeezed.
“Even the court in this case recognised that the social care system was outdated yet the Government continues to send mixed messages about its reforms.
“We urge the Government to ensure these issues are addressed in the Care and Support Bill to give disabled people the reassurance they desperately need about their futures.”
