Following the exchange of letters with the Secretary of State at the beginning of April, and the publication of our Ipsos MORI research into the view of the higher education sector on the suitability of A levels, we plan to consult later in the summer on the arrangements for the development of the new A levels, including their structure.
We know from the MORI research that the current A level structure, with multiple resits, is seen to cause problems in practice. But we also know that the AS is widely valued, including by some universities. We will be developing proposals for consultation which reflect the evidence, the views of universities and others and the need to secure standards, as well as meet our commitment to reduce our regulatory requirements.
