GMB members work hard, earn an honest living, and save for a rainy day, and are hit with a sledgehammer of disproportionate cuts of crippling proportions
GMB has pledged to fight proposals by Northamptonshire County Council to trade unions last week, to begin consultation on a 3.6% pay reduction, and further cuts to terms and conditions, including sick pay, no pay increments, no pay award for 2013 or beyond, and mandatory unpaid leave of 2-3 days per year.
The alternative proposal from the council, is 250 full time equivalent compulsory redundancies. This equates to a 300+ head count of employee's.
Rachelle Wilkins, GMB Regional Officer said“Once again, we are seeing decent working class people, bearing the brunt, of this Government's mismanagement of the economy. Millionaires and bankers. are allowed to play fast and loose with people's money, like a game of monopoly, and receive billions of pounds in bonuses, as a reward.
GMB members work hard, earn an honest living, and save for a rainy day, and are hit with a sledgehammer of disproportionate cuts of crippling proportions.
And yet, Northamptonshire County Council in the same breath, as announcing this proposal, spoke of further proposals, to spend £43 million on a new, suite of council office, Functions, to be built on Angel street car park, in Northampton, and of receiving The Blue Riband prize, a prestigious “Tory accolade”, from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, responsible for economic growth in this country. This was awarded to N.C.C, for a £10million loan given to the Silverstone racing circuit, to safe guard the future of the British Grand Prix, when it came under threat, and an investment of a further, £1.5 Million in the Silverstone wing, allowing the super-rich posh boys, to quaff their Bollinger in comfort……
Class, cuts like a knife, through everything that this Tory led government, And its councils propose and deliver. David Cameron, George Osborne, and Northamptonshire County Council, In hindsight, make Margaret Thatcher look like Mother Theresa…………………..
GMB will be fiercely negotiating to protect our members terms and conditions and defending any further pay cuts, as part of the 90 days consultation, we will be tabling proposals of our own to the council, which we hope will be listened to fairly and reasonably, and given the due consideration worthy of our workers and their families future."
