New Permanent Secretary Appointed at DECC

The Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that Stephen
Lovegrove will be appointed as the new Permanent Secretary at the
Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Mr Lovegrove replaces Moira Wallace who left the Department at the end of October and he is expected to take up his new post on 4th February 2013.
The Nuclear Industry Association’s, Chief Executive, Keith Parker said:
“This is an excellent appointment for Britain’s energy and climate change strategy. Stephen’s proven commercial experience will be a real asset in securing the investment needed for the new low carbon energy mix.
Nuclear will continue to play an increasingly important role in Britain’s future low carbon energy mix and we look forward to working closely with Stephen and the rest of the Department to help deliver a fleet of new nuclear power stations.
Stephen’s experience leading the Shareholder Executive, which overseas
expenditure for nuclear decommissioning, will be hugely valuable in maintaining the significant progress already being made in this vital area.”
Mr Lovegrove is currently Chief Executive at the Shareholder Executive, a role he has had since June 2007. He joined the Shareholder Executive in April 2004.
Prior to that, Stephen spent 10 years at Deutsche Bank, where he was the head of the European media team. During that time, he worked on a wide range of capital raisings, acquisitions and divestments in all the sub-sectors of the media industry. Before working in the City, Stephen spent 5 years as a strategic consultant.
Stephen was actively involved in the London 2012 Olympics, having been a Board member of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. He is a Trustee of the Charities Aid Foundation.
