Mott MacDonald appointed on £1m transport framework in Merseyside

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Merseytravel – on behalf of the Merseyside Transport Partnership consisting of Merseytravel, Knowsley MBC, Liverpool CC, St Helens MBC, Sefton MBC and Wirral MBC – on a £1 million three-year transport framework in Merseyside. The consultancy will monitor Merseyside's Local Transport Plan (LTP) as well as update and maintain strategic transport models and associated services.
The LTP is committed to a low carbon future, which has a transport network and mobility culture that positively contributes to a thriving economy and the health and wellbeing of its citizens and where sustainable travel is the option of choice. The delivery plan to improve transport in Merseyside runs till 2015 with a longer term strategy lasting to 2024.
Mott MacDonald will monitor progress and performance of the LTP targets. This will include traffic and congestion monitoring, a county-wide travel survey to assist in reviewing the LTP, managing and co-ordinating the relevant data and report writing, including producing the annual 'Travel in Merseyside'. The consultancy will also assist with the evaluation of strategy development, forecasts and advice on corrective actions.
There are two transport models which cover the city region area, which can be run either separately or jointly – (i) the Liverpool City Region Transport Model (LCTRM) and (ii) the Merseyside Strategic Model. LCTRM was developed in 2008 and requires upgrading and updating. This will include up-to-date traffic counts and roadside interviews as well as looking into parking supply issues and public transport demand.

“We have a long association with Merseytravel and have been providing transport monitoring services for Merseyside clients since 2002. This was originally as part of the Merseyside Information Service Contract co-ordinated by Wirral Borough Council on behalf of eight public sector organisations on Merseyside, which included Merseytravel.”
