Food and Drink Federation (FDF) members are totally committed to providing safe, nutritious and high quality food which consumers can buy with confidence.
Following the finding of horsemeat in some foods labelled as containing beef our members have undertaken several tests on their products and are co-operating fully with the Food Standards Agency (FSA). We have provided aggregated results to the FSA which are included within the overall industry data they are publishing today.
Some of our members have already been able to successfully complete tests on all their relevant product lines and additional test results on both finished products and raw ingredients are expected over the coming weeks. FDF will be providing updated information on these tests when available.
Our members invest in a wide range of measures to ensure the integrity of their products and supply chains, including:
Increasing the number of audits of their suppliers of meat or meat products;
Conducting targeted confirmatory tracing of meat back to source;
Reviewing supplier accreditation;
Revising the proportion of meat authenticity testing as part of their due diligence programmes.
That significant quantities of horsemeat have been found in beef products is unacceptable and it is regrettable that this situation has arisen. Our members are working round the clock to make sure that you can have confidence in the food you buy.
