Fresh start Wales campaign
8 August 2012
The campaign to get people to quit smoking in their cars in Wales was launched last summer. At that time, the Welsh Government committed to introduce legislation to protect children from second-hand smoke, pending the outcome of a three year awareness campaign – 'Fresh Start Wales'.
Matthew Collins (BLF Wales), who joined the Minister at the launch of the Fresh Start 'quit' packs at the national Eisteddfod, said:
“We were delighted to have been invited to the launch of the latest push to help people successfully quit smoking. Whilst smoke-free legislation protects people from second-hand smoke in public places, the same protection is not afforded to children in private vehicles. We fully support the Fresh Start campaign, however, what we ultimately want to see is our government upholding, by law, the rights of Welsh children not to be exposed to passive smoking. We talk a lot about protecting the most vulnerable in society, there are none more deserving of that protection than children”
