Expected announcement of groceries code adjudicator

Commenting in advance of tomorrow's Queen's Speech (9 May), which it is hoped will confirm the appointment of the Groceries Code Adjudicator, Food and Drink Federation Director General Melanie Leech said:
“We are hoping that the Queen's speech tomorrow makes the Groceries Code Adjudicator Bill a priority and that it allows for third parties such as trade associations to submit evidence of Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP) transgressions. The Competition Commission findings were clear that unless the abuse of market power is addressed then businesses especially small and medium sized manufacturers will be less inclined to innovate and invest. We believe an Adjudicator will help to ensure that the food chain operates fairly and in the best interests of consumers in terms of choice and availability”.
