High Court of Justice rules against Isle of Wight County Council's decision to restrict eligibility criteria for adult social care services
In response to the Isle of Wight County Council judicial review's verdict, Michelle Mitchell, Charity Director of Age UK said:
"We are pleased with today's verdict. This news will come as a relief to thousands of older people who currently receive care and support in their own homes.
"The provision of care should not be just about keeping people safe, it must enable individuals to live dignified and fulfilled lives. Otherwise we are heading towards a society where those who need care are allowed to merely exist, warehoused safely but with no recognition of their inherent dignity and humanity."
"Councils must always consider the effects of change, which may be devastating for the individual concerned, on decisions about service users who rely on care and support. It's clear from today's judgement that this wasn't properly considered or consulted on."
