There are times when running against your own base makes sense. It rarely hurt Tony Blair (though it probably did hurt the Labour party) but it’s not a good idea to reinforce, even in private, the electorate’s suspicion that your party is, on the whole, populated by rum coves at best and maniacs at worst.

APPG on Financial Education for Young People

APPG on Financial Education for Young People

pfeg provide the secretariat for the popular All Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People. The group, Chaired by Justin Tomlinson MP, launched in January 2011. It has since grown to be the largest group of its type within parliament, with 225 members and a raft of supporting organisations. The purpose of the group is to provide a medium through which MPs, Peers and organisations with an interest in financial education, can:

• discuss the current provision of financial education in schools and colleges
• ensure young people are equipped to make informed financial decisions
• help make resources and qualifications available to young people in education
• support schools in the delivery of financial capability
• encourage the introduction of a requirement on schools and colleges to provide financial education.

**The group AGM will be held at 11am on Wednesday 9 January 2013 in Room R, Portcullis House**

The group is split in to four strands:

• Primary and Secondary schools strand, led by Andrew Percy MP
• Further education strand, led by Duncan Hames MP and Nic Dakin MP
• Vulnerable young people strand, led by Teresa Pearce MP
• Higher Education strand, spokesperson Martin Lewis from MoneySavingExpert.com
