The Health and Care Professions Council is a UK-wide regulator that regulates health, psychological and social work professionals. It keeps a Register of professionals who meet its standards for their training, professional skills, and behaviour and currently registers over 300,000 professionals from 16 professions, including: arts therapists; biomedical scientists; chiropodists / podiatrists; clinical scientists; dietitians; hearing aid dispensers; occupational therapists; operating department practitioners; orthoptists; paramedics; physiotherapists; practitioner psychologists; prosthetists / orthotists; radiographers; social workers in England; and speech and language therapists.
All of these professions have at least one professional title that is protected by law, including those shown above. This means, for example, that anyone using the titles 'physiotherapist' or 'dietitian' must be registered with the HCPC. The HCPC will take action against people who use a protected title illegally or those professionals on its Register who do not meet its standards.
At the moment, we register members of 16 professions.
We only register people who meet our standards for their professional skills, behaviour and health.
