The role of improved transport infrastructure in strengthening the UK economy
"High-speed rail may be a catalyst for economic growth, helping to rebalance the economy and bridge the north-south divide. But the government must do more to promote local and regional growth strategies to ensure we get maximum economic benefit from high-speed rail."Louise Ellman MP, Chair, Transport Select Committee
Over the next year in conjunction with its project partners, Dods will undertake a series of research and events to look at the importance and impact of infrastructure improvements in the UK. The projects will look at how the UK can better connect itself regionally, nationally and internationally to enhance and build on our economic prosperity. We will look at connectivity in terms of transport, but also more broadly in infrastructure through planned projects such as high-speed broadband.
The project will reach out and away from London looking at the importance of the regions. We will run research and investigative events in different regions around the UK, starting with the West Midlands in March 2012, before brining the results, ideas and concepts back to the policy makers in London for their input and feedback.
