Planning for the worst. The 2012 Business Continuity Management Survey
Winter weather was the main cause of organisational disruption for the third year running in 2011, affecting 82% of managers – yet public sector strikes (affecting 55%), the BlackBerry outage (39%), and the summer riots (26%) all had an impact on business continuity, according to our latest research.

Economic Outlook (October 2010)
This fourth edition presents the latest findings from the Economic Outlook survey which has been conducted on a six-monthly basis since September 2008. The report provides insights into the impact of the economy on UK organisations and managers’ expectations of future economic performance. It also reviews managers' support for different public policy measures and the actions being taken by managers to steer their organisations through the challenges they face.

Managing an ageing workforce (September 2010)
The UK population is ageing. By 2020 nearly a third of the workforce will be over 50. It is a change that has important implications for employers and their approaches to employment. Especially in difficult economic times, having the right knowledge and skills is a pressing issue for businesses looking to sustain and improve their competitiveness.
This report shows that HR professionals and managers recognise the invaluable contribution that older employees can make. Negative perceptions about older workers are declining and there is widespread recognition of the value that they can bring to the workplace long beyond traditional retirement ages.
Win, Lose or Draw: The workplace impact of the World Cup and major sporting events
(June 2010)
This results paper presents the findings from a survey conducted by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in May 2010, just before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The paper provides insights into the arrangements managers are making in preparation for the World Cup and the impact that the tournament, and other major sporting events, are likely to have in the workplace. It also examines managers’ attitudes to absence management.
