The professional body for waste and resource management
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) has served the waste and resource management industry for over 100 years and is the industry’s leading professional body, representing over 7,000 individual professionals in the UK and overseas.
CIWM’s mission is to support "the continuous improvement in the sustainable management of waste and resources" and it aims to do this by:
• advancing the scientific, technical and practical aspects of waste and resource management for the safeguarding of the environment;
• promoting education, training, research and the dissemination of knowledge in all matters of waste and resource management;
• striving to achieve and maintain the highest standards of practice, competence and conduct by all its members; and
• using its body of knowledge to influence business practices, government policy and the legislative framework governing the sector.
CIWM sets the professional standards for individuals working in the waste and resource management industry and has various grades of membership determined by education, qualification and experience.
CIWM has its headquarters in Northampton and also has ten regional centres across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland offering an active programme of events for local members. As the national member on the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), CIWM also has a presence on the European and world stage.
